• Dry Fly Leaders
    Superior casting,turn-over, and presentation
on even the largest of flies. With our proprietary
floatant process, they not only float straight out of
the package, but are guaranteed to do so for life.
  • Steelhead Leaders
Whether sinking or floating, our Steelhead
leaders are designed for casting and presenting
larger flies or streamers in the most challenging
of situations. Sinking lines have a faster sink rate
than fluorocarbon and are looped at the tippet
    end for greater strength.
  • Nymph/Wet Fly Leaders
For our Sinking Lines, we use a fine diameter
polymer thread that is abrasion resistant, strong,
and has a faster sink rate than fluorocarbon.
It's greater mass also assures smooth, accurate
    casting with even heavy streamers.
  • Tenkara Lines
Our Tenkara Lines are hand crafted in the time honored tradition of using a single strand furled contsruction. Our floating lines have greater mass
than a traditional line, and the casting is greatly improved as a result. Also available in sinking
line, as well as Hi-Vis colors.
  • Floatants/Sinkants
We offer a full line of floatants and sinkants,
including paste floatant, iridescent fumed silica,
and Ultra Sink, which is non-toxic and entirely
    made of food grade materials.

About Zen Outfitters

Zen Outfitters was first started with one humble product- the furled leader.

When I first read about furled leaders online, I rushed out and bought the materials to make a jig and create my own. From the very first leader I made, I was amazed at how well they worked. They cast better, even in the wind, and presented my flies more accurately, and more gently than anything I'd ever seen or used before. I showed them to all of my friends, who thought I was crazy. Until they tried them, and they fell in love with them too.

Pretty soon, I was making them for myself and my friends, but there was one problem. Just like all thread furled leaders, they would get water logged after a few casts and sink. Certainly not good for casting and presenting dry flies, as the leader would cause the fly to have an un-natural drift as it sank. I tried applying just about every floatant on the market, and while some worked better than others, the leader would always sink before the day was through.

Back to the drawing board...

Then I had an 'Aha' moment, and it hit me; the answer that I was looking for. On that very day, we tested what has become our proprietary floatant process, and it has worked ever since. As a result, our leaders are guaranteed to float for life. If they ever fail to float, simply return it, and we will clean and return it at no cost to you. No other company can make that statement, but we do, and have for years.

All of our products are hand crafted in Boise, Idaho, and we put the same amount of thought and effort into designing and testing every one of them.

But don't take my word for it, just read what our customers have to say on our Comments page.
